Colorado Tick Fever is a viral disease, it has previously been known by Mountain fever or American mountain fever, it is similar to Lymes disease in the way that it is transmitted and some symptoms. Most cases of this disease occur during the months of April, May, and June. Structure: The CTF virus consists of 12 segments of of linear double-stranded RNA. The complete genome contains 25,000-27,000 nucleotides. The virus is lipid free. As for the proteins the viral genome encodes both structural and non- structural proteins. Transmission: Colorado Tick Fever is transmitted by getting biten by an infected tick the tick that most commonly carries the disease is the Rocky Mountain wood tick. In some rare cases by a blood tranfusion can infect others with the disease. Prevention: CTF can be prevented by limiting exposure to ticks. . Tucking your pants into your socks helps prevent ticks from reaching your body as well. Wearing light colors and bug repellents also help prevent and locate ticks on you.
